Cardiac Catherization

In early 2015, the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) announced that UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center had been approved to offer elective angioplasty in its state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Lab. For the last seven years, UM UCMC has been performing emergency angioplasty for patients experiencing an acute heart attack. Research has proven that current techniques and available supply items will allow elective angioplasty to be performed safely and that onsite cardiac surgery capabilities are not required to provide a safe environment for patients that choose to have this procedure. This will allow local individuals to receive the care they need in a close-to-home setting, rather than traveling downtown for this procedure.

Stroke Center

Both UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and UM Harford Memorial Hospital are accredited as Primary Stroke Centers, making them extremely well equipped to treat patients with symptoms of stroke. When a stroke strikes, Harford and Cecil county residents can expect unparalleled care close to home. This award recognizes commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients.
