A community hospital located in Anne Arundel County, situated between Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, D.C., UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center is a 310-bed facility with over 600 physicians on the medical staff. Tate Cancer Center

Provides a multidisciplinary team approach to care with collaboration between primary care physicians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and nurse coordinators. The program encourages a continuous sharing of best practices among physicians at the Tate Cancer Center and the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. It is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and is an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program (ACAD).

Aiello Breast Center

This center features a multidisciplinary approach with a specific point of entry into the program and ongoing coordination through all phases of screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The center provides comprehensive diagnostic services, including mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, breast MRI biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, and sentinel node biopsy as well as genetic counseling. The center also provides education and outreach services targeting breast disease.

Joint Replacement Center

Our skilled team of orthopedic surgeons has more than 150 years of combined surgical experience. Advanced surgical techniques include minimally invasive approaches for total hip and knee replacements, and hemiarthroplasties for partial replacement of the knee joint. We also utilize the latest replacement technologies to enhance the strength and durability of newly replaced joints.

Spine & Neuroscience Center

The Baltimore Washington Spine and Neurosciences Center tackles brain and spine problems head-on with a team approach. From evaluation to diagnosis and treatment, the center is committed to providing high-quality care. Our professionals include fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and a dedicated nurse practitioner who coordinates inpatient care, support services, and patient education.

Vascular Center

A nationally renowned program that features clinical space with a full-service vascular laboratory for evaluation and treatment of a wide range of vascular conditions, including PAD and AAA, arterial and venous diseases, and renovascular hypertension. The center also offers renal and endovascular therapy. An endovascular surgical suite offers physicians the opportunity to utilize the latest technology for minimally invasive vascular treatments.

Pascal Women's Center

The Robin E. Pascal Women’s Center features a spacious birthing suite, mother-baby unit, dedicated operating room for Cesarean births, a level II nursery and a satellite office of the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Fetal Care.

Sleep Center

The Sleep Center at UM BWMC is an American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited full-service outpatient facility that provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of the more than 80 different types of sleep disorders.

Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center

This state-of-the-art outpatient facility specializes in treating chronic wounds and non-responsive conditions. It is complete with three hyperbaric oxygen chambers and six treatment areas that provide the most advanced artificial skin techniques available.

Digestive Health Center

The Digestive Health Center provides medical, surgical and diagnostic services for patients with disorders and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Multi-disciplinary care is provided by gastroenterologists, surgeons, nutritionists, genetic counselors, pain management specialists and social workers.

UM Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology

Our teams of endocrinologists, certified diabetes nurse educators and nutritionists help people take charge of their health and manage and prevent diabetes.

Cardiac Care

UMBWMC is designated as a Cardiac Interventional Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Systems Services. Our services include cardiac catheterization, primary and elective angioplasty for acute heart attacks, implantation of pacemakers and internal defibrillators, echocardiography, cardioversion, electrophysiology, and implantation of biventricular pacemakers for the treatment of congestive heart failure. We also offer a number of outpatient evaluative services, including tilt-table, cardiac stress testing, electrocardiography and 24-hour rhythm monitoring.

Capital Improvements

  • Patient Tower Expansion – Construction began in spring 2015 to convert the 7th floor of the hospital into new private patient rooms. Project should be complete in 2016.

  • Surgical Critical Care – New surgical intensive care unit opened in 2013 to expand critical care services through additional surgical intensive care beds and surgical intermediary beds.

  • Surgical Suite Expansion – In 2011, UMBWMC opened a $31 million surgical suite expansion. It offers the latest technology for spine, neurosurgery, vascular, orthopedics and robotic surgical cases. The project also included a 30-bed prep and recovery area and a new, modern waiting room.
  • Cardiac Care  – A newly renovated cardiac catheterization laboratory, a 24-bed intensive care unit and a step-down unit allows us to provide a wide range of services for patients with heart disease or disorders. UMBWMC is also designated a cardiac interventional center.
  • Inpatient/Outpatient Expansion – In 2009, UMBWMC added a $117-million inpatient tower with 111 new private patient rooms. The expansion also includes the addition of obstetric services and a satellite location of the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Fetal Care, as well as outpatient services including the Wound Healing Center, Outpatient Infusion Center and Sleep Center.
  • Vascular Care  – In 2007, UMBWMC brought to the region the latest vascular technology with the addition of an endovascular suite for minimally invasive vascular treatments. It includes a highly advanced patient monitoring system and state-of-the-art intravascular ultrasound system. UMBWMC is one of the first locations in the country to combine these technologies in a single, interventional room.

  • Awarded the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care’s 2014 and 2012 Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award for Quality Improvement
