Hema Patel, MD, FACP
Hema Patel, MD, FACP, joined the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus as chief medical officer in February of 2016. Her responsibilities include quality assurance, care management and social work, accreditation and patient safety, medical staff operations and physician and payor relations.
Prior to her appointment at UMMC Midtown, she played key leadership and clinical roles at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute (UM Rehab) for nearly 15 years. At UM Rehab, she acted as the director of the Medical/Surgical Rehabilitation Unit, deputy chief medical officer and physician quality advisor.
Dr. Patel completed her undergraduate studies at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia and received her medical degree at Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Netherlands. She currently holds many certifications, including re-certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
